The Benicia Arsenal came into the California state championship tournament as the underdogs and left as the top dogs. They easily won the first round, qualifying with 13 goals for and only suffering 3 goals against. They then proceeded to the semi-finals and beat the team favored to win the State Cup, the Redwood Alpine Strikers, by a 4-3 victory. This is the same team that had beaten them 2-1 at a Spring College Showcase tournament by one goal. In the championship game they played the Hayward Chaos, a familiar club that they had competed against in many tournaments before, they were victorious, ending the game with a 3-0 score.

Next up for the Benicia Arsenal is the US Youth Soccer Region IV Championship (Far West Regional's) held in Phoenix, Arizona on June 18 2012. They will also be competing this summer for the first championship title of the newly formed WPSL U20 league, under the San Francisco Nighthawks, representing the community of WCCYSL.

The San Francisco Nighthawks are pleased to announce their partnership with The Evolution FC Youth Soccer Club from San Francisco. With the launch of the new WPSL's U-20 and U-23 League, placement of a quality local youth league into the 'Hawks Nest is a natural progression for the San Francisco premier soccer team. Evolution FC will be the 'Hawks exclusive San Francisco youth club. The Burlingame Soccer Club are their exclusive youth club from the Pennisula, and the WCCYSL Benicia Strikers represent the East Bay.

Evolution FC (EFC), established in 2010, has grown rapidly in SF due mainly to their successful training methods and the quality of their trainers, resulting in the development of dynamic players at a young age. They are a perfect fit with the Nighthawks organization, as they mirror many of the same philosophies as the 'Hawks.

The Nighthawks are excited to announce the creation of a national WPSL U20 and U-23 league beginning June of 2012. The U20 and U-23 league will be a scaled down version of what we already do better than any other women's soccer league;  PROVIDE OPPORTUNITY FOR WOMEN SOCCER PLAYERS.  Low entry cost and fewer minimum standards will allow entry into the amateur level while preparing players to "move up" to a full WPSL team

"I have felt for years there was a lack of opportunities for kids, ending their Club U-18 careers, and embarking on their new college careers.  The Kids come home for Summer, and there is nowhere for them to train and play.  This new League, now fills that gap, and becomes the Bridge between Youth and Adult Soccer"  As praised by Jill Lounsbury, General Manager of the Nighthawks. "This has been a long time coming!"

The Nighthawks will act as mentors, and can help with facilitating trainings as well as occaisionally train with the younger teams. "The idea is to do one Double-Header Home game with each team, and allow one or two of their top players to play with us in the WPSL Game. This let's them play against the Likes of Brandi Chastain and Alex Morgan, and Local Hero's Val Henderson" Added Lounsbury.

Sacramento, California. (March 14, 2012):  The Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) has announced the creation of a new U-20 League that will complement the present WPSL women’s league. The U-20 League will provide an opportunity for young women who have outgrown traditional youth clubs but who are not currently a part of a WPSL team. The new league will be under the direction of Cheryl Simms, former owner of the WPSL Maine Tide.

The creation of the new league was first announced at the WPSL Annual General Meeting in Las Vegas in January, 2012. An agreement with the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) will aid in the development of the new league. USASA has identified the U-20 level as an age group where players are under-utilized and has implemented changes in registration fees, among other enhancements.

The new U-20 League will be a separate league from the WPSL and the newly-formed WPSL Elite League. Teams in the U-20 League may be affiliated with current WPSL teams, acting as reserve or “farm” teams, or they can be stand-alone organizations.
