The Grand Parade San Francisco, CA - The Nighthawks will be marching in the 30th Carnaval San Francisco with the California Soccer Association North ( CSAN ) float on Sunday, May 25th. The 'Hawks, due to their year-round playing schedule, are well-known by the CSAN organization and were asked to join them on their float for this year's parade. This will be the 4th time the Nighthawks have participated in the Mission Neighborhood Carnaval. As usual, the 'Hawks will be seen juggling soccer balls the entire length of the route and interacting with the parade spectators. We hope to see some fans out there cheering us on! Carnaval's Grand Parade is a unique multi-cultural event that celebrates the traditions of many countries and cultures around the world. The floats are spectacular, the music and costumes lavish and varied. Beautifully designed floats depict rich multi-cultural themes, and often feature performers that excite and entertain the crowds. Brazilian-style "escola" samba contingents with up to 300 members dance through the streets in fantastic feathered headdresses or sweeping Bahia skirts, while Caribbean artist perform the music and dance of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Trinidad and the Bahamas. Other Parade artists include Mexican Aztec performers, traditional African dancers and drummers, Polynesian dancers, Japanese Taiko drummers, Chinese Lion Dancers, giant puppets and folkloric artists representing Guatemala, Honduras, Bolivia & Perú, and special children's contingents. The Grand Parade dances through the Mission District streets of San Francisco, is viewed by hundreds of thousands of spectators. Sponsors of the Grand Parade receive a tremendous amount of visibility on the television Spanish & English broadcast audience and exposure on media outlets throughout the State of California. Carnaval Soccer Fest 2008 This year Carnaval San Francisco is proud to introduce SoccerFest - a fun, interactive Soccer event designed to encourage and support young people in discovering and developing their athletic talents. SoccerFest is dedicated to celebrating Soccer, the world's most popular sport and pastime, while emphasizing participation, teamwork, respect, and leadership. The main focus of the event is a free Soccer clinic with professional players as coaches. Players and Coaches will also be available for autograph sessions, photo ops, and will perform Soccer skills demonstrations for participants. The game of Soccer unites people regardless of age, color, culture, race, or religion through one common understanding; love of the beautiful game. This celebration of culture and tradition reflects the spirit of Carnaval San Francisco. The shared passion for Soccer will unify our community at Carnaval SoccerFest 2008. FOOT VOLLEY EXHIBITION During each day at SoccerFest a spectacular exhibition of "Foot Volley" performed by the best professional Beach Soccer players in North America will take place. The game of Foot Volley is a combination of Soccer and Beach Volleyball. This impressive Brazilian tradition originated on the beaches of Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. SOCCERFEST SHOOT-OUT The SoccerFest Shoot-out will be a fun chance to put your soccer skills to the test. This special feature of SoccerFest will be an interactive competition that requires kicking accuracy. The objective is to kick a soccer ball into a goal: the front of the goal will be partially blocked to allow only well placed shots into the goal. |
