WPSL TEAM OF THE WEEK IX
Lancaster's Shaiebly (L) saves a spot in the WPSL East Semifinal while California's Snell (R) leads Storm into post-season

Courtesy of the Official WPSL website www.wpsl.info

SACRAMENTO, CA (07/21/09) - The final weekend of the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) regular season over-lapped with the on-set of the league's post-season, as Dallas Premier & the Arizona Rush face-off in the Big Sky Conference Final while the East Conference Semifinals commence on different sides of the country tonight. The final WPSL Team of the Week selection of the Summer 2009 campaign reflects the building playoff spirit in the league.

This weekend, the top four Pacific Conference sides face-off in California while the Midwest champion travels to Florida to face the Sunshine champion. Check back to the official website of the WPSL (http://www.wpsl.info) on Weds., July 22nd for a full breakdown of this weekend's playoff action.

As for finishing up the regular season awards, important performances from coast to coast once again reflect in the Player of the Week selections. Lancaster receives their second POTW selection this season as Inferno goalkeeper Joy Shaiebly single-handedly upset the undefeated Boston Aztecs in the East Quarterfinals, while California wrapped up another Pacific-North title with thanks to their POTW selection midfielder Meagan Snell.

F Jordan Hilbrands (OHIO PREMIER WOMEN'S S.C.)
The University of Illinois product helped OPWSC complete their undefeated 8-0-0 regular season, leading the team's offense in the team's 3-1 win at F.C. St. Louis. Stymied the past few weeks, Jordan pressured the defense and finished a great goal to help her short-handed side come away with a tough road win.

F Brittany Barry (NEW ENGLAND MUTINY)
The 59-goal scorer for Sci-Tech H.S. did not net a goal all season until this past weekend for New England, but what a time for it to happen - the WPSL East Quarterfinal vs. Adirondack. The 16-year old helped the injury-ravaged Mutiny with two vital goals in the 4-1 road victory over the Lynx.

F Leah Jones (SAN FRANCISCO NIGHTHAWKS)
The best defense is a relentless offense and the fleet-footed Brit scored five of the nine goals in wins for San Francisco, wrapping up second place in the Pacific-North Division for the Nighthawks. On top of that, the soon-to-depart forward helped her side to their first-ever WPSL playoff appearance.

MF Meagan Snell (CALIFORNIA STORM) - WPSL Co-Player of the Week
The California Storm did their division rivals one better, finishing in first place going into the Pacific Conference playoffs this weekend with wins over Walnut Creek & F.C. Sacramento. All with a hearty thanks to Snell as the center-mid scored three goals overall, while endlessly setting up her teammates for scoring opportunities.

MF Kelly Henderson (LONG ISLAND FURY)
The 2006 WPSL Final Four MVP helped put her side just two more victories away from playing in that competition again - on their own home field. The Boston College standout & Fury captain would score unassisted goals from 21 and 23 yards out in a 4-0 win over Philadelphia in a WPSL East Quarterfinal match.

MF Jessica Bush (SAN DIEGO WFC SEALIONS)
The Kansas midfielder was on fire this weekend for SDWFC, notching two beautiful assists in the win over So Cal Rush. The first came in first half stoppage time on a cross to Maki Okada and the second assist came in the 53rd minute, on a SeaLions corner kick which past TOTW selection Tessa Lennala headed in for the final goal in the 3-0 victory.

D Alicia Marshall (DALLAS PREMIER)
The LSU-Shreveport standout led her team defensively again with her aggressive mentality for the Premier, as the Big Sky-South champions wrapped up their regular season with 5-1 and 1-0 road wins in Oklahoma. Dallas will play at Arizona tonight for the first spot in the WPSL Final Four held this August 1-2 by the Long Island Fury at Adelphi University.

D Ashley Ventura (MILLBURN MAGIC)
The Towson defender has been on top form for Millburn this season, helping them to the playoffs while turning in another strong performance in the 2-0 shut-out win over Bay State in a WPSL East Quarterfinal match on Sunday. Ventura's pace on the left & center of the Magic defense has helped them win five of their last six games as they go into their WPSL East Semifinal tonight at the Lancaster Inferno.

D Deidre Bass (MIAMI KICKERS F.C.)
The Miami captain Bass lead her team to the Sunshine Conference championship with a solid game in the defense, taking control of every Florida attack in the team's 2-1 win over the Surge. The Kickers will now take on Ohio Premier Women's S.C. this weekend for the second spot in the Final Four.

D Alaina Beyar (LONG ISLAND FURY)
The left defender stopped the Liberty forwards all evening long - plus was a thorn in the side of the Liberty defense with her overlapping runs up the wing - in Long Island's victory over Philadelphia, which sets them up against last season's conference champion New England tomorrow night in the second WPSL East Semifinal.

GK Joy Shaiebly (LANCASTER INFERNO) - WPSL Co-Player of the Week
The Lancaster goalkeeper made at least three game-saving stops for the Inferno last Saturday in their upset win at Boston: one going back to the crossbar and another where Shaiebly flew horizontal to parry the ball wide. The Inferno will host Millburn tonight for the right to advance to the WPSL East Final, held this weekend at the home field of the highest remaining seed.
