San Francisco, CA -The Nighthawks are pleased to announce that they will be playing in the 2007 USASA National Cup Amateur Division Semi-Finals on Friday, August 3rd at 6pm PST at the Starfire Sports Complex in Seattle, WA.

The National Cup consists of 32 teams competing for a national championship. These 32 teams represent the four regions in USASA, being Region I (Northeast), Region II ( Midwest ), Region III (South-Southeast), and Region IV (West). Four divisions per region- (men's and women's) constitute the National Cup: Open, Amateur, Under-23, and Over-30.

The Cup event, which is free of charge, will kick off on Friday, August 3rd and runs through Sunday, August 5th. The USASA National Cup Finals program is the oldest and most prestigious competition offered to all affiliated teams of the United States Adult Soccer Association.

If the Hawks defeat the NY Athletic Club, also a WPSL team, on Friday, August 3rd, they will go on to the Finals on Sunday, August 5th at 1pm against the winner of the St. Louis SC (Missouri)/Triad United Aces (N. Carolina) game.

"We are excited and honored to be considered one of the top 4 Amateur teams in the country and feel ready for the challenge," said General Manager Jill Lounsbury. "After a coaching change and a rebuilding WPSL year, I feel we have proved that we are a top notch squad. We were able to gain results in half of our games and showed we are able to compete in the highly regarded Western Division. Playing both Ajax, who is undefeated and in the 2007 WPSL Final Four, and the world ranked Storm, to close 1-2 losses, we can easily see our potential to place in next years race."

The Hawks will be taking a very close and talented squad to the Amateur Cup, some who have played together for several years and most for a full year. Lounsbury adds, "We feel that this camaraderie is special and gives us an edge because we are truly pulling for each other to play at our highest potential. This squad boasts several Bay Area Players of the Year and College All-Americans, and have depth at every position. I personally have worked with a few special teams, but this one really is something well beyond that, everyday I am excited to see what they will achieve next. They genuinely make me smile with pride."
