WPSL TEAM OF THE WEEK IX

SACRAMENTO, CA (07/12/11) - The 2011 Women's World Cup in Germany has captured the attention of not only this country but the entire world of women's soccer. This week will see the exciting conclusion to the world's top tournament in the sport and immediately afterwards, the post-season playoffs in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) will kick off from coast to coast.

For the last weekend with a full slate of regular season matches in the WPSL, two individual performances helped propel their respective teams' into the post-season.

Michele Weissenhofer has been the offensive catalyst this season for the Chicago Red Stars, who after two victories this past weekend took the Midwest-North Division title. Judy Christopher was a midfield work horse for the San Diego SeaLions in wins over 2011 WPSL National Finalist Ajax America and Claremont to help her team qualify for the four-team Pacific Conference playoffs.

For their efforts in helping their teams qualify for the post-season, we name the duo the WPSL Co-Players of the Week in the ninth edition of our weekly awards. For the full lineup of the WPSL Team Of The Week, see below:

F Michele Weissenhofer (CHICAGO RED STARS) - WPSL Co-Player Of The Week
The former Notre Dame standout and leading scorer for the Red Stars had a goal and four assists in victories over Iowa & Minnesota as Chicago clinched the Midwest-North Division title.

F Micaela Paradiso (OP ELITE)
The Ohio Premier Elite developmental system product notched four goals in three wins (including two game-winners) for her team, clinching the Midwest-South Division title.

F Chelsea Palmer (AMERICAN EAGLES S.C.)
AESC is concluding their inaugural 2011 season in the Big Sky-South Division in strong fashion, claiming wins over Tulsa & Fort Worth with thanks to late game-winners from the Richland College star.

MF Judy Christopher (SAN DIEGO SEALIONS) - WPSL Co-Player Of The Week
The All-Big West selection for UC-Irvine controlled the center of the pitch, won balls and scored two goals which put her team in the Pacific playoffs for the first time since 2007.

MF Elizabeth Wicks (NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB)
The All-Ivy League selection for Columbia had a very productive weekend with three goals and an assist to help lead NYAC to two wins and their first-ever WPSL East Conference post-season berth.

MF Kristen Schmidbauer (ASA CHESAPEAKE CHARGE)
The soon-to-be Maryland Terrapin makes the TOTW for the second time for notching the game-winning penalty kick in a 1-0 win over Penn Legacy, good for ASA's second WPSL East playoff appearance in two seasons.

MF Valerie Barnes (WEST COAST WILDKATZ)
The former Cal-Berkeley standout had an outstanding weekend in the midfield for the first-year team, scoring both goals of the match in the Pacific-North win over the San Francisco Nighthawks.

D Kaitlyn Eidson (F.C. DALLAS)
The All-Conference USA selection for Southern Methodist University guided her team to another shut-out as a central defender and tallied 2 assists in the 4-0 Big Sky-South win over Houston Select.

D Jenna Roncarati (BOSTON AZTEC U-23)
The third appearance on the WPSL TOTW for the Providence College standout is for good reason, as she controlled the defense in her team's sixth shutout of 2011 for the East-Northeast Division winners.

D Heather Cooke (ASA CHESAPEAKE CHARGE)
The former All-MAAC First Team selection for Loyola and MTV Real World XXV star was key on defense, making several game-saving blocks and tackles to secure the victory for the Charge.

GK Tara Campbell (OP ELITE)
The Duke University starter registered three wins for the perennial WPSL Midwest powerhouse, conceding only two goals in a 4-2 win over Fort Wayne as her team played a player down for most of the match.

HONORABLE MENTION: F Anna Maliszewska (SOUTH FLORIDA STRIKERS) - scored three goals in a 4-1 victory over 2011 Sunshine Conference champion FSA Freedom; F Jessica Kopcho (NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB) - came on in the second half against Millburn and scored 3 goals on 3 shots to propel NYAC to victory; F Megan Lindsay (SPOKANE SHINE) - the Seattle Pacific University star scored a hat-trick in Sunday's 5-1 win over Oregon Rush, completing a weekend sweep for the Shine.
