The offensive & defensive performances from Co-Player of the Week honorees Knowlton & Devonshire (inset) propel teams into post-season

SACRAMENTO, CA (07/12/10) - As the final days of the regular season in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) approach, the performances from key players this past weekend were crucial in solidifying spots for teams in their respective conference playoffs. Boston Aztec U-23 are peaking at the right time, as they defeated East powerhouses New England & the Breakers Reserves this past week to claim the No. 4 seed and home match in the East Quarterfinals.

The same holds true for Oklahoma Alliance F.C., as they shut out two big-time Big Sky-South contenders in Dallas Premier & Fort Worth to claim the division title and right to host the conference title match. Other sides without post-season aspirations also are finishing their seasons on high notes, as Carmel United S.C. and the Madison 56ers notched impressive results in their final matches of the 2010 season.

However, its the offense-defense combination of Boston Aztec U-23's forward Brooke Knowlton and OAFC's goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire that receive the thumbs up for Co-Player of the Week honors in the next-to-last edition of the WPSL Team Of The Week:

F Brooke Knowlton (BOSTON AZTEC U-23) - WPSL Co-Player Of The Week
The Boston College star spearheaded an impressive late season surge by the Aztec U-23's to end with an impressive 8-1-1 record. The 2010 WPSL TOTW Honorable Mention selection scored two goals & two assists as the central figure in the U-23 attack.

F Courtney Bosse (CARMEL UNITED S.C.)
CUSC will have a great conclusion to 2010 with thanks to the St. Bonaventure standout, as she scored four goals overall this past weekend in road wins over F.C. Metro Magic & St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite.

MF Noelle Pineiro (BRANDON F.C.)
An Honorable Mention selection last week, the University of South Florida star tallied two goals & three assists in vital wins over South Florida & previously-undefeated FSA Freedom to put BFC in the hunt for the Sunshine Conference title.

MF Kelly Hammond (ASA CHESAPEAKE CHARGE)
The ASA captain & former University of Virginia standout notched three goals in her team's last two matches, including the vital game-winning goal in the 1-0 victory over the TSC Maryland Pride that got her team into the East playoffs.

MF Kayleigh Hines (MILLBURN MAGIC)
The Arsenal graduate & former England U-19 player was the show in the midfield in two crucial wins over SJUFC & BuxMont, cementing Millburn's spot in the East playoffs. Hines won everything in midfield, started many Millburn attacks and scored the GWG vs. SJUFC.

MF Lorraine Quinn (LONG ISLAND FURY)
The Fury charter member has scored three of the team's four goals in their two matches, including two in the draw vs. New York A.C. this past weekend that clinched the No. 2 seed in the East playoffs.

MF/D Maureen Whitney (CALIFORNIA STORM)
The long-standing Storm warrior was the vital midfield factor in the team's 2-1 win over potent & athletic North Bay F.C. that clinched the Pacific-North Division title for California.

D Katie Hishmeh (F.C. MILWAUKEE NATIONALS)
The Marquette defender anchored the back-line and played in multiple positions in three impressive victories over Chicago Eclipse Select, Madison 56ers and the KUFC Pursuit to give the Nationals the Midwest-North Division title.

D Sydney Vermillion (LAFC CHELSEA)
Her strong defensive play was critical to LAFC's shutout victory over SD United. In addition to her defensive contribution, Vermillion was also is an offensive threat with her precise long-range passes and shots.

D Katherine Donnelly (BOSTON AZTEC U-23)
The important central defending of the Holy Cross University standout in two shutouts was augmented by her contributions to the Aztec U-23 offense, as she scored a goal and two assists in three wins this past week.

GK Kelsey Devonshire (OKLAHOMA ALLIANCE F.C.) - WPSL Co-Player Of The Week
The rising sophomore at Oklahoma University posted two clean sheets vs. defending Big Sky-South champion Dallas & second-place Fort Worth this past weekend. The wins clinched the Big Sky-South title for OAFC for the second time in three seasons.

HONORABLE MENTION: F Laurie Nosbusch (F.C. MILWAUKEE NATIONALS) - the All-Big Ten selection for the University of Wisconsin scored the game winner against Eclipse, created multiple chances against 56ers and scored several against KUFC; MF/F Averi Hallman (SPOKANE BLACK WIDOWS) - the University of Memphis star scored a goal and an assist in the 4-2 win over San Francisco Nighthawks, keeping Spokane mathematically in the Pacific-North race; MF Alex Melin (MADISON 56ERS) - the Gatorade Wisconsin's Girls Soccer Player of the Year notched the first goal of the game vs. Chicago Eclipse Select, assuring the 56ers a 1-1 draw; MF April Perry (MIAMI KICKERS F.C.) - the 2009 Sunshine Conference Player of the Year scored two goals against South Florida (including the GWG) and also had a strong showing on both ends of the pitch on Sunday at Palm Beach United; MF Nina Watkins (NORTH BAY F.C. WAVE) - the Stanford University standout scored twice in the vital 4-0 win at the Clovis Sidekicks to guarantee the NBFC a shot at the Pacific Conference playoffs in a final weekend showdown vs. BSC Portland; MF/D Brittany Pilon (BRANDON F.C.) - the University of South Florida standout won tackle after tackle and continually switched the point of attack in crucial wins over South Florida and FSA Freedom; D Minnie Mercado (OKLAHOMA ALLIANCE F.C.) - the All Big-12 selection for Oklahoma State and statuesqe central defender was another reason why OAFC posted two shutouts over strong sides in Dallas Premier & Fort Worth; GK Mary Casey (ASA CHESAPEAKE CHARGE) - the former University of Maryland goalkeeper & Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) draft pick has been the glue in ASA's late season 4-1-1 run to make the East playoffs, as she notched her fourth shutout in six appearances in the 1-0 win over the TSC Maryland Pride.
