Reigning Champions of the
Golden Gate Women's Soccer League
(GGWSL) Premier Division |
San Francisco, CA - For the fourth consecutive season, the San Francisco Nighthawks (8-1-1) are champions of the Golden Gate Women’s Soccer League (GGWSL) Premier Division. The championship string includes: Spring 2005, Fall 2005, Spring 2006, and, now, Fall 2006.
The GGWSL is a 54 team, 8 division, San Francisco Bay Area regional women’s soccer league with relegation and promotion. The Premier Division includes many women who have played D1 NCAA soccer and want to continue competing at a premier level. GGWSL Premier Division teams regularly field players from such D1 schools as UCLA, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, San Francisco State University, University of Hawaii, Georgetown University, Northwestern University and University of San Francisco. The GGWSL Premier Division is an elite division that is wonderfully competitive.
With their season ending victory over the SF Vikings on December 2nd, the San Francisco Nighthawks have strung four consecutive Premier Division championships together over a two year period (GGWSL conducts league play twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring). And while the Nighthawks also play in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL – a national league rated as the most competitive women’s soccer league in America and the third rated women’s league in the world) from May through July, the Hawks WPSL team includes many current college players from schools such as Georgetown, Princeton, Cal, USF, UC Davis, DeAnza, San Francisco State, San Jose State and others.
The Hawks are both proud and humble. Winning the Premier Division championship has challenged the Hawks to maintain a high level of play as many of the Premier Division teams field very strong, skilled squads. The Hawks will be seeking their fitth consecutive title beginning in March of 2007.
