Santa Rosa, CA - On a warm and sunny June afternoon in Santa Rosa, with a cow (immediately adjacent to the field of play) mooing loudly, the San Francisco Nighthawks (WPSL 2-3-1) played a hard-nosed, blue collar defensive game with the Sonoma Sol (WPSL 3-1-1) and came away with a tie (0-0) for their efforts.
Statistics were meaningless on a day when neither teamed scored while effort, heart, and determination appeared to control this Western Division WPSL game. The game was a see-saw match with Sonoma mounting numerous attacks that were thwarted by the Nighthawks stout defensive backline.
While the return of striker, Tenley Garcia, made the game increasingly interesting for Hawks’ fans, the Nighthawks’ offense just wasn’t clicking. Not allowing a bad day on offense to overshadow their work for interim coach, Jeff Wilson, the Hawks dug deep and earned a tie.
The Nighthawks next game will be tomorrow, June 4th, against the California Storm of Sacramento. Kick-off is at 4:00pm at Kezar Stadium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $1 for youth. Purchase tickets at the gate.
