Hawks Finish Strong in Las Vegas
February 21, 2006
San Francisco, CA - The San Francisco Nighthawks suffered through a disappointing first day of the Silver Mug Cup Tournament in Las Vegas, but stormed back with 3 shutout wins the second day.
The Hawks, who ended the first day with only one point, generated 28 points on Sunday. The 29 points put them in 2nd place in the flight and moved them into the Playoff round of 8 on Monday.
Monday's quarterfinal game against the eventual tournament winners, the Saints from Washington State, was a fast, physcial and very well played game. Both teams had opportunities and neither team dominated. Unfortunately, the Hawks, of three defensive mistakes made during the entire game, two were made by the Hawks and only one by the Saints. The Saints won 2-1. The Hawk's goal would be the only goal scored on the Saints in their three playoff games.
The Hawks look forward to the upcoming Golden Gate Women's league season which begins on March 4 and continues through May 6th. The Nighthawks expect to register the 3rd straight league Championship in the Golden Gate Women's Soccer League (GGWSL) Premier Division.
