2005 WPSL National Awards Announced
October 9, 2005
San Francisco, CA - The Women's Premier Soccer League representatives have chosen the 2005 season national awards which include: the East and West Division 1st and 2nd All-Star teams, Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Goalkeeper, Coach of the Year and Richard Cross Management Excellence Award. Nighthawks forward, Cristina Quintero was named to the West Division All-Stars 1st team and defender Cameron Hernandez to the West Division All-Stars 2nd team.
The league has re-named it's Manager of the Year Award to the "Richard Cross Management Excellence Award" in honor of Richard Cross. Mr. Cross is one of the four founding members of the league and has served as the league Treasurer for eight years. He managed the San Francisco Nighthawks from 1995 - 2005 and has been involved with soccer for more than 28 years. He has decided to retire from the management of the Nighthawks and as the Treasurer of the league so he can spend more time with his family. The league thought it appropriate to show their appreciation for his time and dedication to the game and to the league by naming this Award after him. "He's been my #1 ally and supporter enabling me to do the job that I have done for the WPSL. He will be missed, not just because of all the work he has done for the league but mostly for his friendship and guidance through the years. It's very appropriate to honor him with our league's prestigious award," stated League Commissioner Jerry Zanelli.
Congratulations to Cameron, Cristina and Dick! Please visit www.WPSL.info for details on other league award recipients.
