SF Nighthawks vs Lamorinda and Las Vegas
June 14, 2005
San Francisco, CA - The Nighthawks matched up this weekend against Lamorinda East Bay Power and The Las Vegas Tabagators. In Saturday's match, as usual, the Nighthawks started slowly without putting too much pressure on the Power. The difference was, eventually, the Hawks' defense pushed up and negated most of the Power's attacks on goal. The Hawks drew 5 offsides in the first half. The Power converted a PK in the 1st half and kept attacking, but the Nighthawks began to come alive and Clare Schwallie from St. Mary's fought off tackles to even the score 1-1 at half time. The 2nd half was completely different with the Hawks dominating 7 shots to 1 on goal and 3 corners to none. However, the Power converted their one shot and the Hawks only converted 1 of their 7. The seventh being an unstoppable bullet from Quintero. One unconverted shot was a missed PK.
On Sunday, San Francisco visited Las Vegas and gave the Tabagators every thing they could handle. The first half saw both teams have decent scoring chances, but good defensive work and great goalkeeping kept all shots from finding the back of the net. In the second half, Las Vegas was finally able to break through when Vanessa Bailey found Rachel Gordon in front of the net with a great crossing pass, Gordon, in a lot of traffic inside the box, was able to work the ball past the SF keeper for the first goal of the night at the 59th minute. Eight minutes later, Vanessa scored on a low crossing pass from Rebekah Patrick to put Las Vegas up by 2 goals. The Tabagators defense of Tania Lee, Colleen Caldwell, Tanya Roberts and Emily Marcouiller played their best game of the year against a very determined San Francisco attack.
